CHARITY
work
At Avanti Grange, we believe in fostering a spirit of kindness, compassion, and service. Our charity initiatives bring the school community together to support important causes, reflecting our Avanti values, and our commitment to making a positive difference in the world.
Here are some highlights of the incredible work our students, staff, and families contribute to:
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Each year, Avanti Grange proudly participates in the nationwide Coffee Morning to support Macmillan Cancer Support.
Our event features the much-anticipated Avanti Grange Bake Off, where students from every House contribute delicious bakes. These are sold to raise funds and judged for house points.
This year, thanks to our community's generosity, we raised an impressive £373 for this vital cause. A big congratulations to Empathy House, who were the overall winners of the Bake Off for 2024!
Holy Trinity Night Shelter Community Outreach
Avanti Grange students have donated supplies to Holy Trinity Night Shelter and Community Outreach as the Bishop's Stortford haven for the homeless prepares to open.
The refuge at the South Street church is expected to open in the first week of December as the worst winter weather begins to bite.
Before the first guests arrive, manager David Perry went to talk to pupils at the Newland Avenue secondary about the shelter and its year-round mission to help rough sleepers and those at risk of homelessness.
The Avanti Grange collection was initiated by Year 8 student Gethin Lewis.
He said: "The Avanti ethos encourages us to be respectful and grateful for what we have as there are others in the world, and our own town, who are less fortunate than us. This is why, as a school, we have decided to support the Holy Trinity Night Shelter (HTNS)."
As part of his campaign, Gethin recruited the help of the school's community and diversity committee - one of six student leadership changemaker committees - and the youngsters worked tirelessly to collect provisions.
On behalf of Avanti Grange, Ann Lewis said: "David gave an inspirational and thought-provoking assembly to Years 7 and 8 before spending time taking questions from the community and diversity committee.
"A huge congratulations to the students who coordinated this important initiative. We're looking forward to continuing our support of the shelter over this academic year and beyond."
“Pupils have excellent attitudes towards learning, to their subject lessons and their wide variety of cross-curricular activities"

Children in Need
Every November, one of our Changemaker Committees organises a raffle in support of Children in Need.
This year, we proudly donated £124 to help transform children’s lives across the UK.
Comic Relief
For Comic Relief, our students embrace the opportunity to show their support by wearing a red accessory and contributing donations to the cause.
This simple yet impactful gesture raises awareness and funds to support vulnerable people in the UK and internationally.
